Earth Day is a great reminder to be aware of our impact on the environment. It’s easy to forget and sometimes it feels like there is nothing we can do to help, but every little bit counts! Here are five simple ways you can help reduce your carbon footprint today and every day.
1. Shop Local
Try to buy local produce to help support the ecosystem. Start shopping at your local farmer’s market and ask the vendors where their produce is grown. 2. Recycle & Reuse
Never throw away things that someone else can use! Donate your old belongings, including used clothing, to a local donation center or nonprofit organization. I personally donate my used clothing to the P.A.D in Venice to help homeless teens and Foster Care Counts to support foster families.
3. Avoid Plastic
This one is super easy! Whenever you have the choice of using a glass bottle instead of a plastic one, just choose glass. It seems like something small, but every little bit helps! 4. Bring Your Own Bags
Another simple and effective way of reducing waste is to bring your own grocery bags whenever you go shopping for groceries. 5. Avoid the Car
Walking or riding a bike when possible is a great way to reduce your carbon footprint. If you live in Los Angeles, this one is tricky, but being aware of how much you use your car is important. If you have the option, choose to carpool or split an Uber ride with a friend instead of taking two cars.
