As someone who’s loved Pure Barre for more than four years, I was extremely hopeful I’d be able to continue my beloved routine when I found out I was pregnant last summer. I’m not only a Pure Barre addict, I’m a teacher as well, and knew that frequenting the barre – either to take or teach class – was something I wanted my pregnancy to include.
I’d read blog post accounts from women who’d continued at the barre throughout pregnancy (I especially love reading about women with two or more children who compare a non-barre pregnancy with a barre one), and I’d been inspired watching women and fellow teachers at my studio powering through thigh work and shaking seats while eight or nine months along.
Thankfully, things have worked out as I’d hoped for so far. I was fortunate to avoid the oh-so common first trimester morning sickness (I had extreme fatigue, but didn’t ever really feel sick), and that made continuing my Pure Barre regiment during those first few months a breeze. I was sticking to my five-ish class a week schedule, in addition to teaching.
As my pregnancy has progressed, I’ve dialed back my classes a bit and tried to listen closely to my body and what it’s asking for on any given day. I’ve learned not to try to force a class if I’m feeling too tired or under-hydrated or just off. That never ends well! With this new routine, I’m taking about three classes a week (and still teaching), which feels like a healthy and manageable balance.
The main word that comes to mind when I think of Pure Barre as an element of my pregnancy is “thankful.” I’m so fortunate to have fallen in love with a workout that’s inherently so pregnancy friendly, and it’s left me feeling strong and flexible as my belly continues to grow. I haven’t had any back pain yet (knock on wood!), and am convinced Pure Barre – both before and during pregnancy – has a lot to do with that missing symptom. I’m also thankful for the community that is Pure Barre. Whenever I’m at the studio, I’m surrounded by women who are so kind and encouraging as my pregnancy progresses. Plus, watching them in class motivates me in a big way!
Knowing what a big difference this workout has made in my life over the last few years, I’d wholeheartedly recommend it to anyone looking to strengthen their body – whether pregnant or not! It truly has changed my life in a big way, and having Pure Barre be a part of this pregnancy has been incredibly special.
I can’t wait to see how this workout will help me bounce back post-baby, too!
