We had the pleasure of meeting the lovely Katie Willcox when she modeled for our RAW Beauty Campaign, and continue to be inspired by her mission. Katie is the founder of Healthy is the New Skinny, a social media movement that challenges the media’s messaging and reminds all women that they are lovable just as they are.
“Beauty is overrated and misunderstood,” Katie told us during our RAW campaign, “It is an idea that has been manipulated over and over again by the industry in order to gain a profit. I believe that beauty is more of a feeling rather than a look. When you challenge what you’ve been sold as beauty your entire life, you give yourself an opportunity to feel the true meaning of authentic beauty.”
Her new book, appropriately titled Healthy is the New Skinny: Your Guide to Self-Love in a “Picture Perfect” World launches January 18th — and we can’t wait to get our hands on it!
In her debut as an author, Katie works to expose the harmful media messaging set in place by the fashion and beauty industries by sharing her personal stories and experiences as a “plus size” model. With each chapter, Katie tackles issues surrounding the topic of body image and helps pave the road of self-love for future generations of women to come.
