In honor of Valentine’s Day, what does LOVE mean to you?
Love to me is such a vast, complex word. The last couple of years I have learned a lot about self love and becoming a guardian to my spirit. Many of us, seek something external to demonstrate love ~ for me it has become about nurturing myself and then being ‘love’ in my every day life. Love to me is about connecting to something greater than myself. Connection to my daughters, the earth, sky and sea, and my community. Being ‘love’ fills your heart up more and more . . .
How do you practice love in your daily life?
I practice love for myself and my daughters by eating 100% organically and by not having any chemicals in my home or the beauty products I use. I also practice love by having gratitude each day for this blessed planet and our lives. I play mantras in the house to reflect this love. I also try to remind those around me how loved they are even if things are not going smoothly.
What inspired you to start The Local Rose?
I began The Local Rose when five years ago my life as I knew it was shattered, and with that the light came through. After a divorce and some health issues, I yearned to get closer to mama earth and all her nurturing love and beauty. I found a house near the mountains and began to take a more holistic, simple approach to my life. I decided to share what i was discovering and have a place to inform friends and others about the dangers of GMO foods, toxic chemicals and why we need to live a bit more green. The Local Rose is all about being both chic and green.
What is the best part about raising your own produce? What is the most challenging part?
One of the most fulfilling things is to forage and gather produce in the garden and come prepare a delicious meal from it. I know there are no dangerous chemicals or pesticides in what we are eating. The challenges are finding the time to nurture the garden, making sure there are no pests wreaking havoc, and keeping my dog from jumping in the vegetable beds!
