Just A Spoonful of Mint

Mint has been stimulating our taste buds and cleansing our bodies of bacteria for quite some time now (most notably in our toothpaste and chewing gum!) With both cooling and warming effects, this antioxidant herb can be used in many remarkable applications — from Epicurious endeavors to dandy DIY home remedies. Below are 5 ways to use mint as a home remedy.

1. For soothing cranky stomachs

Stress and stomach problems sadly march hand in hand. The added tension in our life manifests in our organs and can create disease. For mild nausea, bloat or indigestion, crush some fresh mint into warm water or chamomile tea to calm your tummy down and balance your gut.

2. For reducing headaches

I can tell you first hand this is an instant headache cure! I keep a small bottle of Peppermint Oil handy for such an emergency. Use a tiny drop rubbed on each temple (be conservative and mind your eye area.) Pinky swear you will be tossing your aspirin after trying this method.

3. For insomnia, anxiety & depression

Some studies report that the smell of mint alone can induce a more positive outlook. The peppermint variety contains even more menthol, which can ease tense muscles. When our body can physically relax, sleepy time is more likely on the horizon. Try Peppermint Oil in a diffuser in your bedroom for a peaceful, pleasant rest.

4. For awareness

Mint is reported to energize the brain by increasing oxygen flow in a way that promotes alertness and inspires memory function. In fact, Sip on some minty green tea for an added energy and creativity boost!

5. For a clean mouth

Besides tasting delicious, mint helps dimish bacteria that can live and grow in our mouth. Don’t want to chew gum? Opt for a couple of fresh mint leaves. Doesn’t hurt that the antioxidants will help boost your immune system!
