Morning Rituals

As we get back into the swing of things post-holiday, consider how you start your day. Many of us rush to get up and get going in the morning without taking any time for ourselves. Rejiggering those morning rituals can have a positive impact on the rest of your day! Here are 6 ways to set your day up for success before you leave the house.

1. Get enough sleep.

This one starts the night before! Sleep is as essential to our bodies as breathing is, so make sure you give yourself enough time to get a full night’s rest. You should aim for at least 8 hours a night to ensure you wake up feeling fresh and positive.

2. Drink water.

Many of us go straight to coffee or tea in the morning for that extra caffeine boost, but opt for water instead. Drinking a full glass of water with lemon first thing in the morning will start off your day with much needed hydration and clarity.

3. Exercise.

Sure, it can be hard to get to the gym before work or carpool. But that doesn’t mean you can’t do some form of exercise in the morning. Try some at home yoga poses or a quick walk or jog around your neighborhood. 15 minutes is better than nothing!

4. Have breakfast.

Make time for a healthy breakfast full of organic fruits and veggies. Depriving yourself of food in the morning can actually cause you to overeat later in the day. Break the cycle with a breakfast of champions!

5. Don’t use your phone until after breakfast.

The moment you start checking your messages and instagram feed, your focus is elsewhere. Take the time to focus on yourself and be present first thing in the morning. You have the rest of the day to check your phone.

6. Make an intention for the day.

Take a moment of meditation to make a special intention for the day, such as “today I will give a stranger a compliment.” Gratitude is always a great one, as well. Choose something you are grateful for and focus on it the whole day.
