Retouched No More

Lena Dunham recently posted an open letter to Lenny Letter explaining why she’s had it with being photoshopped. In her own words, she vows to never again let her body be subjected to retouching.

Her decision was spurred by seeing this recent magazine cover of herself on instagram:

“My chin was strong and defined, practically another continent from my neck, and my legs and arms were lean and milky white instead of their usual mottled pink,” Dunham writes. “I’m not sure what it was about this particular image that set me off…I wanted to tell people, loudly: ‘That’s not my body!'”

Lena also admits that she once allowed her image to be retouched – and was even excited about it.

“I was 24, and whatever they did to make women appear important, desirable, and worthy of praise was what I wanted,” Dunham writes.

We love her honesty when it comes to this issue. And her willingness to say enough is enough to the media.

“The gap between what I believe and what I allow to be done to my image has to close now,” Lena adds. “I bid farewell to an era when my body was fair game.”

You go, girl!
