Smell Your Way to Better Skin
The skin is our largest organ and we want it to look and feel good. Did you know you can use the natural power of essential oils to help your skin look marvelous? The molecules of essential oils, especially in combination with base oils, have the ability to pass through the deep layers of the skin and can have amazing impact on its appearance.
Whatever your skin concern, here are some ways aromatherapy is here to help.
Stress and diet are an important factor in cellulite. Aromatherapy, however, can support the detoxification, stimulating the lymphatic system and balancing hormones.
Make sure to change the combination of oils regularly. It’s best to massage oils into the problem area of your skin using a brush or massage glove.
Best Essential Oils: Rosemary, Geranium, Grapefruit, Juniper, Cypress, Rosemary, and Black Pepper. Make sure to use a base oil (e.g. sweet almond, or unrefined coconut oil) and then blend in the essential oils.
I recommend a ratio of 5% (30 drops of essential oils per ounce of base oil) or 10% dilution (60 drops of essential oil per ounce of base oil), depending on the sensitivity of your skin.
For Dry Skin
Skin that lacks natural oils, is sensitive and delicate, is often referred to as dry skin. Specific essential oils stimulate the production of natural oils in your skin. They are gentle enough to pamper, soothe and balance your sensitive/delicate skin and actually improve the tone of your skin.
Best Essential Oils: Camomile, Jasmine Rose, Lavender, Neroli, Sandalwood.
For dry skin, use a combination of base oils such as coconut, sesame, sweet almond, or avocado oil and blend in your essential oils (3 to 6 drops per ounce). Shake well before each use and gently massage into your skin daily.
For Aging Skin
Combat the dreaded wrinkles and crows-feet with essential oils that speed up skin cell rejuvenation and rich (unrefined, cold-pressed) base oils that offer additional benefits such as essential fatty acids, vitamins, and minerals.
Best Essential Oils: Jojoba and Avocado Oil; then choose and alternate 3 essentials oils for your blend: Neroli, Lavender, Carrot Seed Oil, Rose, Geranium, Frankincense, Sandalwood.
Mix the essential oils in your base oil. For sensitive skin use 3 to 6 drops per ounce; for normal skin use 6 to 15 drops per ounce. Shake well before each use and gently massage into your skin daily.
For Acne & Oily Skin
Let essential oils help you to reduce excess amount of natural oils from your skin. At the same time they also control bacteria which supports the skin in healing.
Best Essential Oils: Geranium and Lavender plus Ylang Ylang, Cedarwood, Sandalwood, Jojoba and Cypress.
Mix a blend of 2-3 essential oils into your toner or cleansing lotion, making sure that your toner doesn’t have a high alcohol contents or better yet no alcohol at all).
Change oils up weekly so your skin doesn’t get used to them. Use about 6 to 15 drops per ounce of toner, shake well and apply daily after cleaning your face. Follow with moisturizer.
For Stretch Marks
It best to prevent stretch marks from forming by massaging any of the following oils (or a blend) to the effected areas. When pregnant, begin from fourth or fifth month to massage your tummy daily.
Best Essential Oils: Sweet Almond Oil, Cocoa Butter, Shea Butter, Jojoba Oil, Rosehip Oil.
If you are pregnant, you may like to add a drop of lavender per ounce. Otherwise you are safe to choose the essential oils of Mandarin and Neroli in a ratio of 5% (30 drops of essential oils per ounce of base oil) or 10% dilution (60 drops of essential oil per ounce of base oil), depending on the sensitivity of your skin.
