What's the first thing you want someone to feel when they hear this anthem?
The feeling I want this piece to evoke is joy and the permission to be your happiest, brightest, best self. And to prioritize that feeling. If you hear this message and you're like, this is what I needed to hear today, then I'm happy.
Can you tell me about a time when slowing down actually helped you move forward?
I was afraid to slow down for the longest time. When you're doing well in your career, you're like, “I can't slow down. This is my moment. I have to take advantage of this narrow window of opportunity.” But the first time I decided to take a real break and just sit still, travel, and not work was so healthy for me. On one hand, I was just so well rested, but I also felt so much more in tune with myself.
What’s something that brings you joy when you're in a creative rut?
I find joy by closing the laptop, or closing my notebook and going out for a walk. And I just might have headphones in, playing no music and just thinking.
How does running push you to seek beyond?
You know, I live in my comfort zone sometimes, just as an introvert and as someone who appreciates stability. But running has helped me to appreciate the challenges and push myself. And It's meditative in a way that I didn't expect.
What does progress over perfection mean to you?
Listen, one thing I'm not is a perfectionist, and I've found that being a perfectionist can be debilitating — it can paralyze you. Some artists that I really respect are perfectionists, but they're often frozen with fear, and I think perfectionism and fear are kind of interchangeable. First drafts are always going to be terrible. You just have to get over that "cringe mountain" and gets better from there.
