Hi Dale. You recently ran the LA marathon, but until this experience, you didn’t consider yourself a runner. Tell us a little about your journey to the finish line.
I was challenged by a friend of mine to get into it and found a new interest in challenging myself physically. To push through something that I hadn't really done before.
What surprised you about stepping into something completely new?
What surprised me the most was just the mental and physical battle. Hitting mile thirteen and realizing you have to that entire half marathon again. It helped me stretch beyond my limits.
Do you ever find in difficult moments like mile thirteen, that you’re able to tap into the joy of a challenge?
I think if I can try and get through those experiences in the most present, interested, and curious state of mind, that I can come out of it with a different perspective like what I learned from it or an observation of what I might be able to do better the next time.
How does running empower you to seek beyond?
Running empowers me to seek beyond because I think running itself is not something that came extremely naturally to me. Each time that I get out there and run is proving something to myself. So I think I seek beyond by always taking that challenge and pushing through it.
Speaking to new experiences you recently became a dad. Congratulations! What are you looking forward to most during this chapter?
I'm so fascinated with the experience of life, so I’m excited to share that with my son. And by seeing life through his eyes, I think I’m going to learn so much about myself as well.
